Dane Sharp

Danny MayersDanny Mayers arrived in Australia in 1970 from Lancashire England, after working for many years honing his craft playing jazz gigs and fronting The Graduates. Once here he formed a five piece band called Nevada and they released two singles on the EMI label. The first That’s Rock & Roll went to number three on the local charts. It was produced by former Abbey Road producer, Martin Benge. Nevada was known for their tight harmonies and visual stage act.

By the 1980s Danny was fronting twelve piece-band, Slippery When Wet, made up of then Sydney session players:  Clive Harrison (ex Little River Band), Mark Punch (ex Renee Geyer Band) and Rick Price (ex Marcia Hines Band).  In 1982, Danny was asked to join legendary band The Delltones as lead singer. With the The Delltones Danny appeared on major TV shows including Hey Hey It’s Saturday, The Midday Show, Don Lane Show and The Mike Walsh Show.

The Delltones received a Gold Album Award for their Bop Till Ya Drop album which reached number two on the charts behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller.  They have also won three Mo Awards for Best Vocal Group (with Danny as the lead singer).

Danny has spent over 20 years with The Delltones with only a short break to front The Kookaburra Brothers.  In 2008 Danny spent a year on the road with The Delltones performing to sell out crowds on their 50th Anniversary Tour.  Danny and The Delltones have just finished filming a Live DVD of the 50th Anniversary Show due to be released later this year.  The Delltones have released seven albums with Danny as the lead singer and have won numerous awards including The Mo Awards and The Ace Awards.

Danny is still an integral part of The Delltones but in 2009 also signed a recording and publishing contract with Touchwood Productions for his solo career. His long-overdue debut album entitled 19 Longfield Street (produced by award-winning producer Duncan Wood of Touchwood Productions) is out now. Danny and Duncan have written or co-written all but four of the thirteen tracks on the album and it is now available to order in all good record stores across Australia and to download on iTunes.  This is an exciting new chapter in Danny’s stellar career and promises to show another side of this multi-talented entertainer.  2010 will be incredible year for this legend of the Australian Music Industry who still has much he hopes to accomplish.
